Waterhouse Thinking About Bigger Goals

3 minute read

Impressive So You Think three-year-old Just Thinkin' is going to follow a tried and tested classic path this spring following his strong win in the Listed Dulcify Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott-trained Just Thinkin' only won his maiden at Warwick Farm last month but it was the same beginning his maternal grand sire Nothin' Leica Dane made on his debut way back in 1995.

Within three months Nothin' Leica Dane, also trained by Waterhouse, had won the G1 Spring Champion Stakes and G1 Victoria Derby before running second to Doriemus in the G1 Melbourne Cup.

With his connection to the grand stayer, Just Thinkin' is set to follow the same program.

Waterhouse has enjoyed great success with the family as Just Thinkin' is a three-quarter brother to her G3 winners Stampede and Thinkin' Big, winner of last year's Gloaming Stakes and Caulfield Classic and third in the G1 Champion Stakes before he was sold to Hong Kong..

Bred by Peter and June Dunn of Dodmark Thoroughbreds, Just Thinkin' was offered as an Easter yearling by Coolmore Stud where he was retained by the breeders after he was passed in at $350,000.

Just Thinkin' is the 20th stakes winer by So You Think and the third stakes-winner from Nothin' Leica Cat, a G1-placed daughter of Tale Of The Cat.

Nothin' Leica Cat has a yearling colt by American Pharoah and is due to foal again to the Coolmore shuttler.

A Group 2 double for young sire Zoustar at Rosehill and Flemington has enhanced his growing reputation as a source of high class sprinters.

Zoustar had a G2 double on Saturday in the space of 15 minutes when the classy mare Mizzy won the G2 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill and the impressive Zoutori landed the G2 Bobbie Lewis Quality first-up from a spell at Flemington.

Mizzy, a $200,000 Easter yearling buy for her trainer Anthony Cummings from Segenhoe Stud, recorded her second successive Group win after her victory in the G3 Toy Show Quality at Randwick three weeks ago.

Zoutori recorded his fifth career win and first at stakes level with his victory at Flemington.

He also came of the Easter sale as yearling, selling for $160,000 to his trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra from the draft of Amarina Farm.

The 4YO gelding Zoutori (Zoustar x Atotori by Haradasun) provided the Widden Stud stallion with his tenth stakes winner.

Champion sire Snitzel also has a new stakes winner after promising filly Wayupinthesky scored a valuable black type win at just her fourth career start in the Listed Cap D'Antibes Stakes at Flemington.

It was a third consecutive victory for the talented Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly bred by Greg and Barb Ingham and sold for $400,000 as an Easter yearling to Kitchwin Hills through the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Wayupinthesky's dam is the G2 placed The Darling One (Lonhro).

She is the three-time champion sire Snitzel's 91st stakes winner.
