The G1 Prix Rothschild (1600m) for fillies and mares aged three years and over takes place on Tuesday 3 August. We look at the likely contenders for the race…

Mother Earth

Aidan O'Brien has suggested his G1 1000 Guineas (1600m) winner Mother Earth will swerve Glorious Goodwood for the G1 Prix Rothschild (1600m). She finished second behind re-opposing Coeursamba in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1600m) and has placed twice since, including a second in the G1 Falmouth Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket (UK).

Coeursamba

The pick of the French horses on bare form, Coeursamba sprang a surprise when winning the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1600m). She finished a well-beaten eleventh in the G1 Prix de Diane (2100m) subsequently and is expected to appreciate the return to 1600m.

Alpine Star

Half sister to G1 Jacques Le Marois (1600m) winner Alpha Centauri, Alpine Star recorded some valuable placings in France last year, finishing second in both the G1 Prix de Diane (2100m) and the G1 Prix de l'Opera (2000m). She commenced her four-year-old campaign with a second in a Listed contest at York (UK) and could be interesting.

Speak of the Devil

Speak of the Devil returns to Group One company for the first time since finishing fourth in this contest twelve months ago. Second in the 2020 G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1600m), the four-year old returned to winning ways with a success in the Listed Prix de la Caronne over course and distance on 11 July. She is very capable in these conditions.

Sagamiyra

Sagamiyra remains unexposed at the top level and has an excellent career record with five wins and a placing from eight starts. She followed up a win in the Listed Prix Maurice Zilber (1400m) with a second in the G3 Prix Bertrand du Breuil (1600m) against the colts and may show more in female-only company.

Primo Baccio

Winner of the Listed Michael Seely Memorial Fillies' Stakes (1580m) at York (UK) in May, Primo Baccio took a significant step up in grade when fifth in the G1 Falmouth Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket (UK). She remains open to improvement and could surprise.

Tahlie

Tahlie is chasing a fourth consecutive victory and caught the eye with a win in the G2 Prix de Sandringham (1600m) at Chantilly in early June. She has shown considerable improvement as a three-year-old and could make further headway.
