Although the manner of Waldbiene's victory in the Prix de la Breviere (2000m) at Compiegne on Saturday 26 June was eye-catching enough, it was her breeding which caught the attention.

Out of Waldjagd (Observatory), Waldbeine is a half-sister to Listed Pont de Neuf (1400m) winner Urwald. All four of the dam's raced offspring have won. Bred by Gestut Ravensberg, dam Waldjagd is out of Wurftaube, a multiple Group winner in Germany and producer of four Black Type performers. Wurftaube's best progeny was Waldpark, winner of the G1 Deutsches Derby (2400m) who is currently standing at Haras d'Annebault for a fee of 3000 euros. She also produced Waldvogle, a Listed winner at Bremen on the Flat and who proved successful over hurdles in the UK.

The 'Wald' prefix is a familiar sight to racing fans following Waldgeist's multiple Group One victories in Europe, including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) in 2020. The Ballylinch stallion is also descended from Wurftaube – she is his third dam. His second dam Waldmark (Mark of Esteem) was trained in the UK by Sir Michael Stoute and produced multiple winners of her own, including Masked MarvelG1 St Leger (2800m) winner and Champion 3yo Male Stayer in Great Britain in 2011.

From such a strong German bloodline, it would be no surprise to see Waldbeine step up in class after her two and a half length victory in the Prix de la Breviere (2000m) and gain some Black Type of her own.
