Ardrossan back with Marsh

Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh is in no hurry with talented galloper Ardrossan, who has returned to his stable after an unsuccessful stint racing in Victoria.

Ardrossan won both is starts as a two-year-old for Marsh, culminating in a 3 3/4-length win in the Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Stakes (1100m) at Te Rapa last year.

"He's back in our stable and we've just stepped up his work on Tuesday. He looks great and seems happy. We're excited to have him back in our stable," Marsh said.

Now a four-year-old, Redoute's Choice entire Ardrossan has no set plans in place for summer racing yet.

Total Excess primed for first stakes test

Undefeated three-year-old Total Excess is being set for his first tilt at stakes company in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Trainer Jamie Richards has been pleased with his runner since his last start win over 1300m at Awapuni last month and he is hoping he can continue his winning ways.

“He has done well in the stable, a two week turnaround and (stepping up to) 1400m, everything looks right about the job. Michael Coleman is on him and he galloped him on Tuesday morning,” he said.

“We’re pleased with him and he’s a progressive sort of horse. He’s two from two and needs to take that next step up in to stakes company on Saturday.”
