Bank on Bartzella

3 minute read

Bartzella has a gilt-edged opportunity for further Listed honours in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes at the West Yorkshire track.

The William Haggas-trained three-year-old was sent straight to the front on her seasonal debut at Goodwood at the end of April and was very willing when the challengers came, notably Lady Hayes.

The Haggas filly was strongly pressed by the runner-up but was always doing enough, so the fact Lady Hayes – who is more than capable being Group Two-placed – enjoys a 3lb pull in the weights here is not enough to convince she can turn that form around.

That was only the fourth outing of Bartzella 's career and her first for 210 days, so there should be a good deal more to come.

Danny Tudhope enjoyed a fine time of things in the saddle at Royal Ascot and ought to be on the scoresheet here with Speriamo in the opening novice for fillies over six furlongs.

She was green with signs of promise when fourth to Primrose Ridge first time over the minimum trip at Beverley and backed up the impression she could win races when obliging at Kempton.

The Charlie McBride-trained youngster got the better of a previous winner in that victory at the Sunbury track, where she clearly enjoyed the step up to six furlongs.

The Rutland Rebel rarely runs a bad race here and should be thereabouts again in the Pontefract Cup Handicap.

Micky Hammond's charge probably needed it when third on his reappearance and is entitled to go close.

Cheekpieces have been the making of Exminster, who should go well in the mile handicap, while the lucky last can see Il Bandito bring up a hat-trick.

The latter is a smooth traveller who then tends to do enough, so we might not have seen the best of him yet.

Nicky Henderson can bag a Worcester winner with Chasamax.

The seven-year-old lines up in the Neu-Servo Siemens Servo Handicap Hurdle after getting the verdict in the Ffos Las stewards' room last time out.

That win incurred a 2lb rise but he has won off 117 before.

Melburnian is the pick for Rebecca Menzies in the Iveson SISters Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Hexham.
