Super Posh makes winning debut for Logan

Trainer Donna Logan gave former Singapore champion galloper Super Easy a big wrap after one of the offspring she trains scored on debut on Sunday.

The first-year Kiwi handler had already saddled two of them before, The Big Easy, and Thunder Dragon, who made his debut on Friday night, but Super Posh, who is out of Le Bec Fin dam Posh Bec, was the first to get on the board.

A winner of over 850 races in New Zealand, Logan has not made haste to get her budding Kranji string up and running since relocating here back in February, but with Super Posh bringing up win No 4, she is confident the yard is not far from hitting top gear.

Two races later, she went on to bring up her first double at Kranji with Shahbaa (Erasmus Aslam, $51) in the $20,000 Open Maiden race over 1600m.

“I’ve got time for these Super Easy’s. This one is well suited to Singapore, and Super Easy was a good horse himself,” said Logan.

Super Posh has done everything right since he’s been in New Zealand and has settled in really well here. I don’t think it will be just the one-one win from him.

“The horses seem to be going better. There are 10 more in New Zealand and will be on their way soon.

“Things are so different here compared to New Zealand where we have a lot of stayers. We don’t have the facilities to train such horses here, but we have to accommodate these things into our training.”

A barrier trial winner at Kranji on September 18, Super Posh is not quite the finished article yet, though, as the $29 shot was seen wobbling out to the middle of the track inside the last 300m, when driven for that last push by jockey Vlad Duric after showing the way from the start.

Mr Coppola (Olivier Placais) had to duck back to the inside as Super Posh shifted out, but the bird had already flown.

Placed at his first two runs, favourite Golden Years (Alysha Collett) had every chance as he came serving it to Super Posh from the last bend, but had to settle for another placing. The Jimmy Choux colt ran second, half-a-length off Super Posh with Mr Coppola third another half-a-length away. The winning time was 59.66 seconds for the 1000m on the Polytrack.

“He jumped away well, but he was still very green,” said Duric, who was riding a race-to-race double after taking out the first race aboard favourite Taichi Belt.

“He’s a nice horse who will go through his grades nicely here.”

The 2017 Singapore champion jockey did not team up with Logan all that much, but has been getting on her horses more often of late. He rode her third winner Key Success on August 24.

The riding double sees the Australian jockey go two winners clear of rival Michael Rodd on the current premiership. Both rode one winner apiece – Rodd on Dusseldorf and Duric in the last race aboard David’s Sling - on Friday night to tie on 59 winners.
