The Charlie Appleby-trained Ghaiyyath has been shortened to 16-1 (from 33) with Bet365 and Boylesports for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe following a dominant victory in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden, Germany's most prestigious race.

The unexposed Godolphin runner – who was making just his sixth career start – made all under William Buick and always looked in control. He breezed into an uncontested lead as they turned into the straight and then continued to extend his advantage, eventually routing his eight rivals by 14 lengths.

Donjah finished second, with Laccario, an impressive winner of the Deutsches Derby last time, in third. The only other British runner Communique was well beaten.

The success was Buick's a first Group 1 victory since Old Persian's win in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March and continued a fine afternoon for the Godolphin team after Vintager's victory in the Group 2 Oettingen-Rennen earlier on the card.
