Chad Brown Cleans Up At Arlington

3 minute read

New York trainer Chad Brown made a clean sweep of the three G1 features on the Arlington Million program in Chicago on August 10.

Brown's treble of wins in the G1 Arlington Million, G1 Secretariat Stakes and G1 Beverley D. took his record on Arlington's biggest day to nine G1 wins in the last four years.

He had won two of three G1 races that headline Arlington's International Festival of Racing each year in  2016, 2017 and 2018 but this was the first time had landed all three features.

He has won the Beverley D. four years straight, now has three successive wins in the Arlington Million and has two victories in the Secretariat Stakes in 2016 and 2019.

He won this year's treble with three favourites, Bricks And Mortar adding the Arlington Million to his record, Sistercharlie defending her title in in the Beverly D. and the rising 3YO taking home the Secretariat Stakes.

Bricks And Mortar is now America's current undisputed turf champion and is considered a worthy contender for US Horse of the Year honours, adding the Arlington Million to his earlier wins in the GI Pegasus World Cup Turf, GI Turf Classic and G1 Manhattan Stakes.

With a stud deal finalised last week for the son of Giant's Causeway to stand in Japan at the Shadai Stallion Station in 2020, Bricks And Mortar delivered an important result when he beat the Irish raider Magic Wand from the Aidan O'Brien stable.

His record now stands at 10 wins from 12 starts for prizemoney of $US4.885 million.

Magic Wand is a 4YO mare by Galileo and could be A WS Cox Plate contender given O'Brien's record of setting horses for the Australian spring after showing good form at the Arlington meeting.
