Dubai Friday-Collier Hill out of Sheema Classic

3 minute read

Collier Hill was withdrawn from the Sheema Classic this morning. It seems age may be catching up with the champ as he was found to be a little sore after track work this morning.

No problems with Pompeii Ruler who continues to please nor any of the other runners that we have heard about.

The weather has cleared up and the little rain yesterday was only enough to dampen down some of the dust and to make taxis

almost non-existent. We were in the Old Town around lunch time and did as the locals – took an “ambra” – the Dubain ferry boat –

back across the Dubai Creek and walked along until we found a taxi.

The Arabian Nights party in the desert is always an amazing function and full of interesting racing people. We sat next to a charming

young lady jockey from Oman, Salima Al Taleei who did her apprentice training in Australia. Salima, who is 27, had never had

anything to do with horses until 2003 and is now riding for Michael Kettle in Abu Dhabi. But she is also a track sprinter and is trying

to combine training for the Beijing Olympics, where she hopes to run the 100 metres for the Omani Olympic Team, with riding.

A numer or horses did light track work this morning. Invasor continues to impress as did Sir Percy and English Channel. Kelly's

Landing is still the most interesting horse because of his physique. He's a big boy.
