Nakayama Grand Jump and Satsuki Sho

3 minute read

This is a big weekend for racing in Japan. After snowing on the cherry blossoms this week it looks like the sun will be back,

The Nakayama Grand Jump doesn't have any overseas runners this year but it does have the champion jumper Oju Chosen back which should please the fans. Others we may think about are Nihonpiro Baron and Le Pere Noel.

At Hanshin on Saturday there's the G3 Arlington Cup where Vin De Garde, a Deep Impact, is on top on 4.4 with Mirco Demuro riding, Catedral by Heart's Cry is on 4.6 with Andrasch Starke in the irons and Christophe Lemaire is on Fossamagna, next best on 4.7.

On Sunday the Satsuki Sho or Japanese 2000 Guineas, will be run at Nakayama over 2000m. The Lord Kanaloa colt Saturnalia is out of Cesario and that makes him a half-brother to Epiphania. Cesario herself was no slouch winning both in the US and Japan. Saturnalia is 3 from 3 to date so he is on evens and the rest are on double figures or more. Danon Kingly is by Deep Impact and is also undefeated in his three outings to date. Velox is on 18.1 and Admire Mars is value on the same quote - he was 2yo colt of the year in 2018.
