Doncaster St Leger meeting 2019

3 minute read

Friday's card sees the running of some great races and the Doncaster Cup should be a worthy highlight.

It sees another meeting between Stradivarius, who is going for his 10th consecutive win, and Dee Ex Bee, who has been bridesmaid on their last three outings.  While there is a swing in the weights it probably won't be enough to turn the tables here.  The trip is over 3600m.  Also in the field is Willie Mullins's eternal stayer Max Dynamite but not sure he would like the good to firm going that has been posted.

The G3 JRA Sceptre Stakes is over 1400m for f&m 3+ and there's a field of 14 to run.  The going is a question mark for a lot of the runners including the smart filly Farzeen from Roger Varian's yard, with the trainer saying he is not sure how she will act on the going.  She's 4/1.  Di Fede is 11/2 and will run on anything and the improving Pretty Baby is on 7/1.

The Flying Childers G2 normally lives up to its name with this year's version having 8 very speedy 2yos.  A'Ali is fast but again his best has been on softer ground so 11/8 could be a bit skinny.  Aligator Alley is on 6/4 for the O'Brien brothers and there's a roughie here in Golden Dragon on 14/1 with Oisin Murphy riding for Stuart Williams.
