No luck for Japanese runners in France

3 minute read

It is always a big challenge and the wet track did not help.

Kiseki probably had the best prep being based in France and running in one of the Arc Trial races at Longchamp but the best he could do was 7th.  Brexit may mean that future horses who want to tackle the Arc will have to be based in Europe if they decided to take on the challenge.

At home there was good news during the week when Nanako Fujita rode a Listed winner at Tokyo City to get her first graded stakes win.

On Sunday there was the G2 Mainichi Okan at Tokyo which went to favourite Danon Kingly with Aerolithe second and Indy Champ third and Persian Knight fourth, ridden by Andrash Starke who is in Japan on a temporary licence.

The Kyoto Daishoten was a big upset when Dreadnoughtus on 90/1 won from Danburite on 16/1 and Shirvanshah also on double figures odds.
