Geelong Cup 2019

3 minute read

When Media Puzzle won this it started a run of overseas horses using this race to get into the Melbourne Cup.

Four overseas runners are looking at this as they need either a win or placing to make it to Tuesday week's feature.

Prince of Arran raced in the Melbourne Cup last year and hopes to move up the list from #38.  He's in good form too. Michael Walker has the ride and 3.70 the quote.

True Self is trained by Willie Mullins and has a good record over both the jumps and the flat with John Allen booked for the ride.  7.00 should be about right.

Godolphin's Saeed bin Suroor trains Red Galileo – he's by Dubawi and was second in the Ebor at York which should make him ready for this trip.  If you can get 13.0 he could be value.

Haky is trained in France by John Hammond, who is retiring at the end of the year.  By Muhtathir, he had a run here in which he looked like he needed the run, but the time before that in France he ran second in the Prix Gladiateur at Longchamp on Arc weekend.  He may need this run in which case he won't make the Cup but could go to something like the Mackinnon.  Linda Meech has the ride and he's on 26.50.

We could have a roughie here and although he has been here since he left Andre Fabre's yard in October 2016, Grey Lion is by Galileo out of a Danehill mare.  He's on 17.0 and has been consistent of late.
