Ascot Day 2

3 minute read

There's only two Group races today but some really good handicaps if you are brave enough.

From our viewpoint there hasn't been enough racing to dare to venture into selecting in the handicaps so we will concentrate on the Group races.

The first of these is the G3 Hampton Court over 2000m for 3yos.  The Queen has a runner here – First Receiver – trained by Sir Michael Stoute and the ride of Frankie Dettori. 9/4.

The market is not settled so we are going by the UK prices as they stand and they have Juan Elcano on 3/1 for Kevin Ryan and Andrea Atzeni and Russian Emperor  on 7/2 for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.

The second is the Prince of Wales G1 also over 2000m with 7 to run and what a tricky race.  Japan will probably start favourite for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore but this is his first outing since he ran 4th in the Arc last October.  Around 10/11.

Addeybb has been putting in air miles with a trip to Australia where he managed to win two G1s in the Sydney Carnival, both with Tom Marquand on board and he will ride here.  If he brings that form here he will be a serious contender.  11/2.  William Haggas trains.

Godolphin's Barney Roy also has been getting air miles although not quite so many as Addeybb as he was in Dubai where he won a G2 and a G1.  As usual William Buick will ride for Charlie Appleby.
