2021 sets off at Sha Tin

3 minute read

And a very happy birthday to all our Northern Hemisphere horse friends.

There are 2 G3 and 2 Class 2 races on the card to set the pace for 2021.  Racing is still behind closed doors except for owners and their families.  We are almost getting used to that!

The Bauhinia Sprint Trophy G3 is over 1000m and Computer Patch is being dropped back in trip which should not cause any problems in fact the opposite, together with the small field of 5 which means there can be no problem with the draw.  He's odds-on with Joao Moreira hoping to increase his lead in the jockey comp.  Stronger looks the main threat on 4.0 for Soumillon-Whyte.

The Chinese Club Challenge Cup G3 is over 1400m and has 8 runners.  Winning Dreamer is fav on 2.5 for Lor-Ho but we are leaning towards Sky Darci for Fownes-Moreira on 5.7.  Buddies worth putting in multiples on 7.0.

Race 9 is the Cherry Handicap Class 2 over 1200m which is a tough race to pick.  California Rad is on top on 3.7 for Cruz-Moreira but Beauty Applause is overdue a win and could be value on 6.0 for Size-Borges.  There are two on 15.0 worth putting in the mix – Czarson who has basically been an AWT specialist and Lockheed.

Race 11 is the Chinese Banyon Handicap over 1600m Class 2.  Lucky Express could be lucky here and is on 3.5 for Size-Teetan.  He and Circuit Three 4.7 Cruz-Moreira have both been working well.  Packing Waltham on 8.6 for Cruz-Soumillon and General's Delight Whyte-Purton on 9.2 make up the top four.

One positive from today's meet is that there will be 11 horses who score wins on their birthday!
