Snow Lantern lights the way

Her dam just missed out on winning the Falmouth but the daughter has made amends.

Snow Lantern gets her grey colouring from her dam Sky Lantern who was such a lovely horse.  We remember her in Hong Kong with the owner's children all over her and she took it in her stride.  Snow Lantern, who is by Frankel, could not have a nicer pedigree and she calmly took out the G1 Falmouth, in the process overturning the result with Alcohol Free who had won the Coronation Stakes but could only make it to third this time.  In the middle was Mother Earth who had been third in the Coronation.  Our roughie Just Beautiful was not too far away in 6th and had gone out to 40/1 so keep her in the Little Black Book.

Earlier Sandrine has added the Duchess of Cambridge to her win in the Albany to get a short quote for the 1000 Guineas next year.  She defeated Desert Dreamer by 1 ¾ lengths with Hello You third.

Saturday there is the Superlative G2 and the July Cup G1 with one of those wonderful Heritage Handicaps in the middle, the Bunbury.

Not sure how they make these prices as in the Superlative they have Dhabab on top on 9/4 with a not so impressive last outing.  By No Nay Never and the Gosdens have put Dettori up this time.

Native Trail is by Oasis Dream and won on debut for Appleby-Buick and is on 11/4 and may have a chance if he doesn't succumb to the second up-it is.  We rather like Mr McCann on 9/1 for Tom Dascombe and Jane Elliot – he's by Kodiac and has won his last two outings.

The July Cup is G1 over 1200m and will have 19 starters.  Starman has been impressive and should be able to get this for Ed Walker and "Aussie Tom" Marquand.  Starman won the Duke of York recently.

Dragon Symbol was first over the line in the Commonwealth Cup but got demoted and Oxted won the King's Stand and won this race last year and they are on 9/2.  Glen Shiel is on 14/1 for Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle.  Love these races when Tom and Hollie are riding against each other.

The Bunbury is over 1400m and will have 20 starters for the Cavalry Charge.  The market has Perotta on 7/2 for Marcus Tregoning and William Buick.  Ametist is 9/2 for William Haggas and Tom Marquand, Fundamentalist 13/2 for Gosdens-Harley and our roughie here is National League on 16/1 for Richard Fahey and Joe Fanning.
