Good day for the Aga Khan at Chantilly

3 minute read

His colt by Churchill Vadani won the G1 Jockey Club (French Derby) and clearly relished the cut in the ground.

Earlier in the day his filly Baiykara won the Prix de Royaumont defeating Manisha.

The Grand Prix de Chantilly G2 came before the Jockey Club and was a happy day for us wit Mare Australis winning from Bubble Gift and Grocer Jack was third.

The Jockey Club over 2100m had a field of 15 but there was an explosion when Vadani reached the 400m mark and the colt took off much to the delight of jockey Christophe Soumillon.  While the Arc is a possibility, trainer Rouget says he prefers keeping him at middle distance races and has the Guillaime d'Ornano at Deauville on mind.  El Bodegon 14/1 was second and then favourite Modern Games finished third just ahead of Al Hakeem with a decent run from Onesto in fifth.

The G2 Prix Sandringham was another good result for Haggas-Marquand when Purplepay saluted.  She's by Zarak, as is Baiykara who won earlier.  Life In Motion was 2 ½ l second 6/1 and Sicilian Desfense third.

The Gros-Chêne went to the Irish raider Brostaigh from Joseph O'Brien's yard with our lovely friend Air de Valse running second on 9/1 and White Lavender was third.
