This was the first of the three weekends of racing, trotting and ski-joring on the frozen lake.
The horses wear special shoes for the ice and it is a great spectacle for those who are prepared to stand around in the snow where drinks that might warm you up cost something similar to a mortgage payment for a luxury chalet in the town.
The German raiders were present this weekend and one of the main races for this opening weekend was a conditions race won by Dolomit, an appropriately named horse trained by Peter Schiergen and ridden by Sybille Voigt.
