Hot on the hooves of one of her finest training achievements, including a recent home-track treble, Moruya’s Natalie Jarvis is big value with several outsiders at Sunday’s Nowra TAB meeting.
She combines with comeback riding mother of two Robyn Freeman and rising apprentice Ruby Haylock, with runners throughout a seven-race program that were also dual acceptors for Canberra.
Surely a lead for the popular Shoalhaven circuit, a two-hour drive from Natalie's Moruya base where she has been excelling of late with three winners, including the prestige South Coast Club's Cup with rejuvenated talent Napoleon Solo.
The performed city grade seven-year-old, formerly with Team Snowden and Anthony & Edward Cummings, hadn't won since Rosehill Gardens in November of 2018 and late in 2019 at Kembla.
However, in his second prep since joining Natalie and her racing partner Luke in July last year, Napoleon Solo and Freeman amazingly roared down the outside at $30 in the heavy to win the Cup.
On Sunday, Natalie's debut 4yo mare Flying Cathay ($23 on TAB) contests the second race maiden to be ridden by Freeman off recent trials at Moruya and Sapphire.
Meanwhile Ruby claims 3.5kg on maiden winner and last start Moruya placegetter Blackhill Kitty ($21) in the third event.
Ruby Haylock [pictured left], who emerged spectacularly with four winners at the Sapphire track on Melbourne Cup Day last season, has an involvement and a fancy for the five-year-old mare at lengthy odds in a Culburra Amateur Fishing Club Class 1, 1100m.
"She's always had talent, I go back a way with her, I was apprenticed to Wade Mathie when she came to Wade for pre-training, I've ridden her regularly," explained Ruby, who has recently switched indentures to Joe Cleary who is based at Queanbeyan but has a satellite stable at Moruya.
"Her last run was really good into this with any luck from the wide barrier. I rode her first up at Sapphire, she'll be fitter.
"I'm based at Moruya now, love it here, I'm originally from Bowral, grew up on a farm and rode in pony clubs and eventing. Always wanted to be a jockey, love what I do.
"I've only just signed on with Joe, but I ride regular work for the Moruya trainers."
At present Nowra is a Soft 6 in overcast conditions.
