Trainer Mick Price plans to give his promising colt Ready For Victory one start in Melbourne before switching to Sydney for the Golden Rose.

Price is planning to resume Ready For Victory in the Group Three McNeill Stakes at Caulfield on August 29 after giving the colt his first public hitout of the new season at the Cranbourne barrier trials on Monday.

Ready For Victory impressed track watchers by hitting the line in good style to finish third, a length behind Kentucky Flyer in his 800 metre heat.

Price has been planning Ready For Victory’s campaign around the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 12 and plans to target the Group 1 second-up.

Sydneysiders last saw Ready For Victory when the More Than Ready colt finished seventh to Pride Of Dubai in the ATC Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick in April.

He was previously beaten less than two lengths when a wayward fourth in the Golden Slipper, veering off the track late in the race when challenging the placegetters.

Ready For Victory’s only Melbourne run produced a debut win in the Listed Festival of Racing 1000 up the Flemington straight.

Ready For Victory is high in TAB betting for the upcoming spring features, rated on the fourth line of betting at $15 for the Golden Rose and is a clear fourth favourite at $12 for the Caulfield Guineas.
