Astern has drawn a wide gate for Saturday’s De Bortoli Wines 2016 Golden Rose at Rosehill this Saturday.

A first up winner of the Run To The Rose, Astern has drawn barrier 12 in a final field of 14 for the 2016 Golden Rose.

Astern (James McDonald) is one of two runners for John O’Shea with his stablemate Impending (Brenton Avdulla) drawing gate two.

Chris Waller’s boom filly Omei Sword drew barrier three while stablemate Nikitas has eight, with the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott duo of El Divino (Hugh Bowman) and Thronum (Kerrin McEvoy) coming up with four and 13 respectively.

Liam Birchley is the other trainer with dual representation, lining upChamalu from barrier one and O’Reilly Cyrus from the outside stall.

Group 1 winner Yankee Rose resumes in the 2016 Golden Rose under Zac Purton and drew barrier nine while Up And Coming Stakes winner Divine Prophet (Tommy Berry) has 10.

The improving pair of Derryn (Tim Clark) and Mediterranean (Blake Shinn) drew seven and five respectively with Good Standing (Glyn Schofield) in six and Oink (Paul Hammersley) in 11.
