Zousain Seals Golden Rose Start

3 minute read

A pleasing gallop at Rosehill on Tuesday morning has sealed a start in Saturday’s $1 million Golden Rose for the Chris Waller-trained three-year-old Zousain.

Zousain had been under the eye of Racing NSW stewards since last week after he contested the Run To The Rose at Rosehill on September 8 where he finished fourth behind stablemate Lean Mean Machine.

On September 10 the Waller stable advised stewards that Zousain had a mildly elevated temperature and would require treatment with antibiotics.

A blood sample for health assessment was taken from Zousain last Friday to ascertain if the colt could resume full trackwork.

Waller’s stable manager Charles Duckworth today advised Racing NSW stewards that Zousain galloped 1000 metres on Tuesday morning prior to the declaration of final acceptances for the Golden Rose.

After the gallop he underwent an endoscopic examination that revealed no abnormalities.

Duckworth said a second blood test taken from Zousain on Monday also returned pleasing results.

Zousain has accepted for the Golden Rose, joining stablemates Lean Mean Machine and The Autumn Sun as Waller’s starters in the Group One race.
