2018 STOCKS STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Stocks Stakes is a Group 2 race run under Weights For Age conditions for four year old and up mares at Moonee Valley conducted by the Moonee Valley Racing Club.

The Stocks Stakes is run over 1600m. It was first run in 1973 and was won by Mellition.

The Stocks Stakes has always been run at Moonee Valley and run on the Grand Final week card, either pre GF or post GF.

It has always been at the mile.

From 1979 the Stocks Stakes was Listed until 1992 then up to 2004 when it became a Group 3 before achieving Group 2 status after that.

Many elite mares who’ve achieved G1 wins have taken it out.

After winning the Sunline in the Autumn, I Am A Star won the Spring version six months on.

The Stocks Stakes is worth $200,000 in 2018.
