A new Showcase meeting at Albury has been programmed for April 18 to replace the lost Albury Cup meeting.

Racing NSW announced that the additional race meeting will offer $240,000 of prizemoney with each race worth a minimum $30,000.

The prizemoney will be paid by Racing NSW with Albury Racing Club not required to contribute to the stakes on the day.

“The addition of a Showcase meeting provides the opportunity for a wide range of trainers and owners in the region to race for prizemoney that would have been paid on Albury Cup Day,” said Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys.

Racing NSW has abandoned plans to reschedule the Albury Gold Cup race due to the difficulty in finding a suitable date in coming weeks that does not clash with Group 3 races run in Melbourne and Sydney over the Cup distance of 2000m or upcoming feature races in the Riverina such as the Gundagai Cup, Murrumbidgee Cup and Wagga Cup.

Racing NSW is awaiting a final report as to why the Albury track did not drain appropriately in certain areas last Friday after a torrential morning storm, forcing the meeting be cancelled prior to the first race.

Rectification works will be undertaken to ensure suitable drainage is in place in the areas affected.
