Mystic Journey returned to her trainer Adam Trinder’s Devonport stables last week after almost two months of rest at his property at Latrobe.

Mystic Journey was spelled after she completed a magnificent autumn campaign with a resounding win over her older rivals in the inaugural running of the $5 million All Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 16.

That win completed a rich Group One double by the Tasmanian owned and bred filly in major Flemington mile races after her Australian Guineas victory on March 2.

Her Flemington triumphs lifted her career earnings to $3.259 million and have assured her of the Champion 3YO Filly award for the 2018-19 season.

Purchased for a bargain $11,000 as a yearling, she has won seven of her eight starts this season and 10 from 13 overall.

The early return to training is part of Trinder’s big spring plans for the rising 4YO that will see her nominated for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, WS Cox Plate and the new Golden Eagle in Sydney.

Trinder has already mapped out her early program with the G3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on July 27 earmarked as her first-up race, four days before she turns four.

Trinder then plans to run Mystic Journey in the $1 million Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 31 with her performance in that Group 1 event to determine the path she follows for the rest of the spring.

Significantly the former champion jumps jockey is not ruling out a visit to Sydney for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle over 1500m at Rosehill on November 2.

The Golden Eagle is exclusive to 4YOs and threatens to draw some of the best of the age group away from the Melbourne carnival.

“We will nominate her for the Cox Plate, which is her main mission, but we also will put in a nomination for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and other feature races that could fit into her prep and that includes the Golden Eagle in Sydney.

“Right now the Golden Eagle is just a name on a piece of paper, but in this game you have to cover as many bases as possible to get the right outcome.

“The plan is to keep all of our options open and make decisions only when they need to be made.

“More concrete decisions will be made as her preparation unfolds.”
