An extended Everest carnival will now be held over six weeks with a number of new races being introduced and significant increases in prizemoney for other races.
The carnival will for the first time have a feature race carrying at least $1 million in prizemoney each week.
The $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens on 2 November 2019 will now be supported by the advent of the $1 million Winners Stakes to be run over 1300m under set weight and penalty conditions. This race will be renamed each year in honour of the previous year’s winner of The Everest and accordingly will be known as The Redzel Stakes in 2019. The Golden Eagle meeting will also see the running of the inaugural Rosehill Gold Cup over 2000m for prizemoney of $500,000, also attached to a bonus from races on 5 October and 19 October 2019.
The path to the Golden Eagle will include the running of a new race being the $500,000 Silver Eagle over 1300m at Royal Randwick on Saturday 12 October 2019, three weeks prior. The Silver Eagle will be restricted to four-year olds and run at set weight and penalty conditions.
Other major changes to the program:
Spring Champion Stakes on 12 October - prizemoney will increase from $500,000 to $1 million
$1 million Bondi Stakes for three-year olds on Saturday 26 October
$1 million Golden Gift for two-year olds on 9 November
$500,000 Hot Danish Stakes for fillies and mares on 9 November
Over the period from Saturday, 7 September to Saturday, 9 November the ATC Saturday race meetings will feature prizemoney of $45 million.

Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, Kevin Anderson MP, said the NSW thoroughbred racing industry is going from strength to strength and rivals that of other racing jurisdictions around the world.
“We hear it time and time again that people want to attend races in New South Wales, rather than travel to other states, which is why this investment from Racing NSW will be significant for race goers and participants alike,” Mr Anderson said.
“The Everest has been a phenomenon with no other event coming to prominence so quickly. The NSW Government in partnership with Racing NSW and the ATC want to see this rapid growth continue and the expanded carnival is important in the next stage of its growth.”
Racing NSW Chairman Mr Russell Balding AO said “The Everest has captured extraordinary interest both inside and outside racing throughout Australia and internationally. The inception of the Golden Eagle with the addition of the Winners Stakes and Silver Eagle will further strengthen our racing program during the Spring in Sydney.
“We are confident that the addition of these new races, along with the programming change will ensure that they attract the highest quality horses to compete through the entirety of our Spring carnival and that the racing public will have the opportunity to celebrate and experience Sydney racing at its best.”
Australian Turf Club Chairman Matt McGrath said: “Sydney continues to build its own world class racing Carnival in the Spring and these changes further enhance the racing program as well as delivering fantastic returns to our key stakeholders.
“The Australian Turf Club has recently launched its hospitality sales program for our Spring racing and we have been thrilled with the early response which will only be enhanced after these announcements.”

Everest Carnival – October and November 2019 Feature Races
Summary of Changes to the Everest Carnival
Golden Eagle/Four Year Olds
As a lead up to the Golden Eagle on 2 November 2019, the $500,000 Silver Eagle, 1300m 4yos has been added to the program on Saturday 12 October 2019. This race provides a 200m step up in distance 21 days later to the Golden Eagle. The four-year olds also have the option of progressing through The Everest or Sydney Stks over 1200m, 14 days prior to the Golden Eagle.
Bondi Stakes/Three Year Olds
There have been changes to the three-year-old program, especially leading into the $1 million Bondi Stks at Royal Randwick on 26 October 2019.
The Stan Fox Stakes, 1500m Gr 2 has been moved to Saturday 12 October 2019 from 14 September 2019, two weeks prior to the Bondi Stks and two weeks following the Golden Rose. Prizemoney has been increased to $250,000 from $200,000.
The Dulcify Qlty, LR has been moved back to 14 September 2019 at Rosehill Gardens to be run over 1500m as the Dulcify Stks, leading into the Gloaming Stakes Gr2 1800m. The weight conditions will be amended to set weight and penalties. Prizemoney for the race will be $150,000.
Prizemoney for the Sir Brian Crowley Stks, LR 1200m on 26 October 2019 has also been increased by $50,000 to $200,000.
Staying/Middle Distance Program
The staying program has been further boosted with the $500,000 Rosehill Gold Cup being added to the program at Rosehill on 2 November 2019, Golden Eagle day and run at a distance of 2000m. Further, a $500,000 bonus is attached to the race for any horse that wins the Rosehill Gold Cup after having won either the Group 1 $750,000 The Metropolitan or Group 2 $500,000 Hill Stakes on Saturday 5 October 2019, and either the Group 3 $500,000 Craven Plate or $500,000 St Leger on Saturday 12 October 2019.
The bonus is open to horses taking the middle-distance weight for age path (Hill Stks and Craven Plate), staying path (Metropolitan and St Leger) or a combination of the two on the way to the Rosehill Gold Cup.A further bonus of $100,000 is also offered to the winner of the Rosehill Gold Cup if they contested one of the above-mentioned races on both 5 October and 19 October 2019.
Sprinting Program
For sprinters, the Redzel Stks has been added to the program on Golden Eagle Day, 2 November 2019. The Redzel Stks, $1 million SWP is held over 1300m and follows 14 days after The Everest, Sydney Stakes and The Kosciuszko on 19 October 2019. The set weight and penalty conditions of the Redzel Stks will be less punitive on well performed horses than some SWP scales, with a maximum penalty of 2.5kg. The Shorts, Gr3 on Saturday 21 September 2019 will also have its prizemoney increased to $500,000.
Fillies and Mares
The $1 million Golden Gift program on Saturday 9 November 2019 has been boosted by moving the Breeders Classic, Gr2 from February to be run on this day. The race will be renamed the Hot Danish Stks and run over 1400m. Prizemoney for the race will be boosted to $500,000. Prizemoney for Group 3 The Nivison, 1200m on 26 October 2019 will be boosted to $200,000 from $160,000.
Other Races
Prizemoney for the Filante Hcp, 1400m on 26 October 2016 will be boosted to $160,000.
