Bigger Plans For Housay After Caulfield Outing

3 minute read

It isn't often than a racemeeting on the second day of the year could deliver a horse with Group race potential but after a achieving a winning-double at Flemington on New Year's Day, Craig Williams has set his sights on Housay winning at Caulfield.

Four-year-old Housay faces the starter for sixth time with a smart record of two wins and as many placings to-date.

Finishing just outside of the placings at Flemington over 1400 metres on Oaks Day, Williams was aboard for the first time for an improved third placing at Moonee Valley on 28 November. Freshened by the Cranbourne based Eden stable, Housay is rated a $3.90 chance by Racing & Sports in Race 4 over 1200 metres.

"I've been looking forward to this", Williams said of the gelding by British sire Zebedee.

"Shea Eden and his team have been patient and have targeted a perfect race for $125,000 for his rating."

The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Evening Glory rates as Housay's main danger at $4.30 to be ridden by Melbourne's current leading jockey, Jamie Kah. Williams, however has higher hopes for his mount.

"He feels to me that he's a horse that's got group potential. Even though he's only lightly raced, he's doing it all this preparation.

"I'm really looking forward to riding him again."
