South Aussie star Behemoth has ran a brave third in today’s $5 million All-Star Mile at rain-swept Moonee Valley.

Behemoth led around the around the famous Valley turn and managed to cling onto third in the 1600m feature event, behind winner Mugatoo and runner-up Russian Camelot.

The placing was a triumph for Strathalbyn-based trainer David Jolly, who won two Group 1s in Melbourne with the giant-sized galloper last spring and has overseen a meticulous preparation leading into today's big race.

Behemoth started at around $10 in the All-Star Mile, coming off a fourth placing in the lead-up event, the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.

Fellow SA runner and the outsider of the field, Regalo Di Gaetano, also ran a brave race to finish 11th, after being disadvantaged by today's track, which has favoured on-pace runners close to the rail.

Pre-race favourite Arcadia Queen was scratched this morning after failing to pass a veterinary inspection.

Earlier today two-year-old Scorched Earth franked the SA form by winning the Listed Charter Keck Cramer Valley Pearl at Moonee Valley, after taking out the Magic Millions Classic at Murray Bridge on February 27.
