Ichibansan hoping to follow big brother’s footsteps

3 minute read

Ichibansan has some big shoes to fill when he tackles the $107,250 Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

He'll be trying to follow in the footsteps of his big brother Dalasan and give Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas their second successive feature – while his big brother tackles the $3m Doncaster Mile at Randwick in Sydney just over 10 minutes later.

Ichibansan will be trying to break his maiden status in the feature. In contrast, Dalasan had won a Group 2 Danehill Stakes and two Group 3 races before he powered away from rivals to win by three lengths last year as a $1.75 favourite.

Ichibansan is currently a $151 outsider with tab.com.au.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Chica Fuerte is a dominant $2.80 favourite ahead of last-start Clare Lindop Stakes winner Ecumenical ($4), the fillies dominating the betting in one of the key South Australian Derby lead-up races.
