Jolly pair to contest Straight Six at Flemington

David Jolly says it is not ideal to have stable runners line up against each other, but Streetcar Stranger and Trip will do so at Flemington.

Adelaide trainer David Jolly is heading back across the border with dual representation in the Straight Six at Flemington on Saturday.

Last start Caulfield winner Streetcar Stranger and consistent performer Trip are acceptors in the Listed race over the straight 1200m course.

At this stage, Trip needs a scratching to force her way into field of 16 as she is the emergency acceptor.

Trip was also entered for the donate@NJT.org.au Handicap (1100m), but Jolly preferred the 1200m distance with the added bonus of 'black type'.

"I thought the 1100 (metres) might have just been a bit sharp for her," Jolly said.

"I don't really want to run them against each other, but sometimes you're forced to.

"She's a mare, so if she runs top three, that would be useful for her profile as a broodmare later on."

Trip ran second in the Listed City Of Marion Stakes at Morphettville last November and has had two runs back this campaign.

First-up Trip ran second to Streetcar Stranger at Morphettville before finishing fifth to Trygve at Morphettville on May 8.

"She's got some good form around her and the 1200 is a better distance," Jolly said.

Dean Holland will partner Trip while Jamie Kah will again ride Streetcar Stranger who was one of the leading jockey's five-winner haul at Caulfield on May 8.

Streetcar Stranger steps up to 1200m for just the second time in his career having scored over the distance at Strathalbyn.

"It was pleasing to see him win at Caulfield but the straight is different kettle of fish, however he's progressive and he gets in on the minimum," Jolly said.

"He's the sort of horse that runs better against better quality and he enjoys the pace on in his races.

"He's done everything right at home, so I think he deserves his chance."
