2021 TIBBIE STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Tibbie Stakes is a Group 3 race run under Set Weights and Penalty conditions for fillies and mares at Newcastle conducted by the Newcastle Jockey Club.

The Tibbie Stakes is run over 1400m. It is registered as the Tibbie Plate but became known as the Tibbie Stakes.

The Tibbie Stakes was just a race in the Newcastle carnival but became a Listed race in 2005 and a Group 3 from 2013.

The Broadmeadow racecourse at Newcastle is the biggest of the provincial courses in NSW and the only one in Australia to host multiple group races.

It is a race history dominated by Gai Waterhouse and Chris Waller.

In March of 2005 Guy Walter produced an amazing training performance when he trifectad the G1 Doncaster Handicap with Patezza, Court's In Session and Danni Martene. Well later that year he went one better. Walter had first, second, third and fourth in the Tibbie as Shalimar Sky brought home Fantasia, Johan's Toy and Hennessy Waltz.

The Tibbie is a good lead up for races like the Angst Stakes at Randwick and then onto the Melbourne mares features.

The 2007 race was not held due to the Equine Influenza break out.

In 2018 Princess Posh beat Savatiano and in 2019 they'd return and run 1&2 in the Newcastle Newmarket.

The Tibbie Stakes was worth $160,000 in 2021.

Notable winners of the Tibbie Stakes include Princess Posh (2018), Zanbagh (2017), She's Clean (2015), Nocturnelle (2012), More Strawberries (2011), Vintedge (2010), Miss Pageantry (2008) and Shalimar Sky (2005).

The 2020 Tibbie Stakes was won by All Saints' Eve from Yamazaki and Wandabaa.
