Cressy trainer Cameron Thompson is hoping that his stable apprentice Tayah Stalker can win at her first race ride when she teams up with Trojan Storm in a benchmark 60 handicap over 1150m in Devonport on Sunday.

Trojan Storm has notched six consecutive seconds and deserves to win another race and Stalker could be both horse and trainer's saviour.

Stalker has been apprenticed to Thompson for two years and winning at her first attempt would be great, but there is a bit more to it, as Stalker explained.

"Trojan Storm is my favourite horse in the stable and to win on him at my first ride would be incredible," Stalker said.

"He has been so unlucky recently but hopefully I can give him that elusive win."

Thompson says Trojan Storm deserves to notch his fifth career win.

"The horse is very consistent, but we are hoping that Tayah's relationship with the horse and her four-kilogram claim can make the difference on Sunday," Thompson said.

"She gets on very well with the horse and that showed when she won a trial on him recently."

Tasmania's riding ranks swell even further on Sunday with another 18-year-old Taylor Johnstone also making her debut.

Johnstone is indentured to Team Wells and is based at Brighton with Leon Wells.

She has proven herself at the trials and the stable is confident she will develop into a top rider.

Johnston has been given permission to take two rides on Sunday with her mounts being Gee Gees Buzz in race 2, the Goodstone Group maiden over 1009m and Gee Gees Jennia in the benchmark 60 handicap over 1150m (race 6).

Gee Gees Buzz is a half-brother to star sprinter Deroche and while this gelding has yet to show any worthwhile form, his recent trial win in Devonport suggests the penny may have dropped.
