Neil Evans' tips for Scone (Monday)

3 minute read

Track likely Soft 6 and rail out 3m

Race 1 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1300m):

Very open battle for the girls to start. Provincial mare 3. Minifinn has an average record ahead of her 17th start, but often has hit the line without luck in deeper races. Worked home okay resuming, and her best form is second-up and on soft ground.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by metro filly 6. Wenet who was a narrow maiden winner, second-up at the track; resuming mare 5. Pelgrave behind two quiet trials; hard fit mare 4. Mook's Sister who draws a low gate; and progressive filly 10. Dawnburst who won her maiden first-up, and draws the inside.

How to play it: Minifinn each way and trifecta 3,5,6/3,4,5,6,10/3,4,5,6,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2200m):

Local mare 9. Kadashi fought on well behind the winner in a similar race here run in record time three weeks back. She draws to do little work early, and couldn't be fitter for this journey.

Dangers: Taree four-year-old 1. Casirina will look to come across from the wide gate and take control fourth-up in a weaker race, although she rises sharply in weight. Include 2. Private Detective and 3. Eugenio, both third-up, in exotics.

How to play it: Kadashi to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Impressed with how four-year-old 1. Bullawa Creek found the line late third-up in a handy maiden, and he's ready to break through back at home over a bit more ground.

Dangers: Watch the betting closely on three-year-old 6. Matlock who debuts in blinkers for a strong metro yard off two improving trials, and the Kermadec stock is really starting to make its mark. Another first starter, So You Think filly 14. Show Me Your Love is also a big market watch on debut.

How to play it: Bullawa Creek each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (900m):

No loafing over this dash, and that sets up well for resuming home track mare 7. Deepstar who looks ready to fire off a dominant trial win. Good pointer too with stablemate preferred at Dubbo on Sunday, and she can park off the fence and just off the speed and finish over the top.

Dangers: Canberra mare 4. Off To War was well beaten second-up in a much stronger metro race, and drew the inside; while 1. Omar is next best having won a recent trial, and four weeks between runs with a 4kg claim.

How to play it: Deepstar to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Not much depth in this, and most are going around for practice. Progressive colt 5. Hallowed Son has been strong through the line in three runs this prep, whether ridden from well back, or leading at his most recent. Suspect, they'll go back from the wide draw here, but this distance shapes well, and he has the best closing 400m sectional in the race.

Dangers: Promising three-year-old 6. Written Sun is an obvious threat after leading for a long way on debut here when very well backed. With that experience and race fitness, he'll give another big sight. Gap to the rest headed by provincial filly 12. La Breawho debuts after two trials; and debutant So You Think mare 8. Nor Izzati who draws well behind two improving trials.

How to play it: Hallowed Son to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

Tricky sprint with plenty of first-starters on show. Always had plenty of time for provincial filly 14. Bullinachinashop who made up good late ground first-up when supported at a double figure price. Had previously been forward in two trials, and will relish this track.

Dangers: The market should tell the story with debutant metro All Too Hard filly 11. Spirit Of Chanel who's been fitted with two improving trials. Big watch too on local Sooboog three-year-old 3. Regalo D'Oro who debuts after two progressive trials. Included in exotics at bigger odds Flying Artie filly 10. Miss Violet off a nice trial.

How to play it: Bullinachinashop to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Another testing one over the mile with a couple of key ones likely to come out. Progressive Randwick mare 13. Al Sahara looks suitably placed to strike third-up. Has been placed eight times from 11 starts, often in good quality maiden company, and hit the line hard last start at Wyong carrying 3kg more. Take note has also accepted for Wyong on Tuesday

Dangers: Progressive mare 7. Fusaichi Family rushed home to win a weaker CL1 third-up, and has a senior rider back on for her first run on home track. Metro three-year-old 14. Koondeeman should get a comfortable lead here second-up, and can give this a big shake. Gap to the rest, although include 2. Owned Up and 5. Doubtless Wonder in wider exotics.

How to play it: Al Sahara to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1300m):

Drawn to get good cover settling off the speed, talented provincial three-year-old 9. Mobstar can make it two wins from three in her first prep. Has a real ability to surge home, and is bred to thrive in soft going. Will be city-bound soon.

Dangers: Improving four-year-old 3. Nicator is well over the odds third-up. Local four-year-old 7. Still In Fashion resumes off a long break and a trial drawn inside; while 12. Zakor has handy tactical speed, and has been placed in two of his last four.

How to play it: Mobstar to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 9 CLASS 3 HCP (1100m):

Open sprint to finish. Smart home track mare 11. Lady River was given little or no hope resuming, caught wide all the way and strung up in traffic. Has since trialled strongly, and with blinkers added and a stronger rider booked, she's ready to erupt second-up.

Dangers: Provincial five-year-old 3. Toto will also be rattling home third-up after two very solid closing efforts. Keep safe metro mare 12. Flash Point who was sound first-up, and well-credentialed in soft ground; while 9. Katgully Red draws the inside second-up.

How to play it: Lady River to win and quinella 3 and 11. Odds and Evens: Odds
