Race 2: Remus

One to keep an eye on from Saturday's Randwick meeting is the J M Austin-trained Remus.

Having found the line strongly when resuming at Hawkesbury, the four-year-old gelding was well supported second-up in the 1600m Midway ($4.80).

The son of Vancouver jumped on terms from his tricky alley, before quickly being restrained by apprentice Tyler Schiller in order of securing cover.

Travelling rearward throughout, Schiller and his mount had all but one ahead of them when rounding the home-turn but were soon positioned last early in the straight when shifting out to the centre of the track, in search of clear running.

Taking his time to work through his gears, the four-year-old ran on strongly passing the 200m and took good ground off his rivals to the line.

Although posing no threat to the top two, the gelding was impressive over the concluding stages and had he been the beneficiary of a better gate and run in transit, would've gone close to taking out the event.

Stripping fitter third-up, Remus will be primed for a bold showing and with a touch of luck will be extremely difficult to dismiss.
