Star-Studded Jockeys Room At Wyong (Thursday)

3 minute read

Local three-year-old Fielding ($4 on TAB) can end a frustrating run of minor placings when he contests The Zing On Provincial and Country Maiden (1100m) at the Wyong race meeting on Thursday.

Racecourse : Wyong (Australia.

The Damien Lane-trained gelding has had four starts for four placings all on wet tracks.

Fielding has been runner-up in both starts at Wyong the latest in February when he chased home the smart Godolphin filly Camino Real. He resumed from a three-month spell in a quality maiden field on Scone Cup day on May 13.

Fielding was four-wide with no cover on a Heavy 8 track and finished third behind the promising Economics. Darryl McLellan has ridden the son of Deep Field in all four starts and he has the mount on Thursday.

Willie Pike has six mounts at Wyong with the lightly raced Nickelback ($2.60) in the Finger Lickin Good Maiden Plate (1000m) the best fancied of the six. The 3yo resumes from a spell but is trialling well. In his last start at Canterbury on January 28 the gelding was runner-up. The son of Nicconi is trained by the Hawkes family.

It will be a star-studded jockeys room at Wyong with Hugh Bowman, Kerrin McEvoy, Tommy Berry, Jason Collett, Rachel King along with Pike riding at the meeting.

RACE 1, WYONG RACE FUNCTION CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Nomoretawq ($3.70) is well placed here after two recent creditable performances. He was placed at Gosford on ANZAC Day on a heavy track and two starts back he was beaten two lengths on a heavy Wyong track. Gracious Gracie ($3 favourite) drops in class and will be hard to beat while Opal Glory ($4.60) had good form last prep.
SELECTIONS: 6 NOMORETAWQ, 9 GRACIOUS GRACIE 7, OPAL GLORY

RACE 2, THE ZING ON PROVINCIAL COUNTRY MAIDEN, 1100M: Fielding ($4) is knocking on the door after placings in all four starts. He was never on the track with no cover when placed at Scone first-up on May 13. All four starts have been on wet tracks and he has the speed to overcome the barrier. The Halo ($2.80 fav) was wide no cover when placed at Newcastle first-up and Oakfield Duke ($4.80) has won two trials.
SELECTIONS: 1 FIELDING, 9 THE HALO, 2 OAKFIELD DUKE

RACE 3, FINGER LICKIN GOOD MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M: The lightly raced Nickelback ($2.60) resumes after two nice trials and Pike rides. The 3yo hasn't raced since he was runner-up at Canterbury in January. He has the speed to race handy and he has trialled nicely on a heavy track recently. Shirshov ($2.20 fav) has been placed in three of six starts and he was narrowly beaten first-up. Rock Chant ($6.50) went okay first-up.
SELECTIONS: 1 NICKELBACK, 3 SHIRSHOV, 6 ROCK CHANT

RACE 4, KYLE OLIVER MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Calm Down ($2.80) has put the writing on the wall with placings in all three starts this preparation. All three starts have been on wet tracks and she was narrowly beaten on this track on April 28. He normally races in the first three or four. Tiva Bay ($2 fav) has been placed in three of five starts, likes heavy tracks and the longer trip is ideal. Denarau ($4.60) was narrowly beaten second-up at Hawkesbury.
SELECTIONS: 2 CALM DOWN, 1 TIVA BAY, 3 DENARAU

RACE 5, THE STACKER BURGER CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2000M: Vyner ($1.85 fav) steps up in distance after two unplaced runs this prep. He won his only start over the 1600m on this track in November. He was placed on a heavy track over 1850m at Newcastle in November. Love Rules ($2.70) broke through for an easy win on this track last start and Launch Attack ($10) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 VYNER, 7 LOVE RULES, 2 LAUNCH ATTACK

RACE 6, COLONEL SANDERS B/M 68 HANDICAP, 1100M: Black Jacamar ($3.40) is chasing a hat-trick after impressive wins at Taree and Hawkesbury. She has genuine speed and both wins have been on heavy tracks. She has a good record with four wins and three placings from eight starts. Tucson Valley ($1.90 fav) is quick and has good country form and Sausalito ($5.50) is racing well.
SELECTIONS: 1 BLACK JACAMAR, 2 TUCSON VALLEY, 6 SAUSALITO

RACE 7, THE RAYMOND FAMILY B/M 64, 1350M: Buba ($1.90 fav) hasn't been far away in her two starts this prep. She is a mudlark with all three wins on heavy tracks and she will appreciate the 3kg allowance. My Snow Queen ($6) will be fitter second-up and Narumi ($8) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 2 BUBA, 5 MY SNOW QUEEN, 7 NARUMI

RACE 8, WYONG'S NEXT RACE MEETING JUNE 16 B/M 64, 1350M: Harlem Groove ($5) ran on good when beaten 2 lengths on a very heavy track at Port Macquarie last start. His only win was on a heavy track and he will appreciate the longer trip. Mihocek ($4.20 equal fav) is a heavy track winner and trialled okay and Pool Pony ($6) can run well.
SELECTIONS: 3 HARLEM GROOVE, 1 MIHOCEK, 5 POOL PONY
