Marocchino Allocated top weight for Perth Cup

Courageous six-year-old Marocchino has been allocated topweight of 59kg for the $500,000 G2 Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot on January 1.

Trained by Lou Luciani, Marocchino was rated 2 ½ kg superior to Adelaide galloper, Ironclad and veteran nine-year-old Trap For Fools.

Marocchino stamped his Perth Cup credentials by defeating Steinem in last Saturday's G2 Ted Van Heemst with Ironclad finishing third.

Marocchino, who burst through $1 million in prizemoney and bonuses after the Ted Van Heemst, carried 53 ½ kg when 11th to Midnight Blue in last January's Perth Cup.

David Harrison's Buster Bash, a winner of the Towton Cup and Luckygray this preparation, has been allocated 54 1/2

Last Of The Line, placed fifth in the Railway Stakes last-start, has 53 1/2 kg

Last season's WA Derby (2400m) winner Alaskan God is among Perth Cup nominations on the 53kg minimum.
