Wings Of Song improves again to win Tasmanian Oaks.
Wings Of Song has completed a Tasmanian three-year-old feature race quartet with victory in the Tasmanian Oaks at Launceston.
The Patrick Payne-trained filly by US sire Mendelssohn took out the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) six weeks ago at Hobart, then followed up in the Thousand Guineas (1600m) on January 21.
After that, winning the Listed Strutt Stakes (2100m) on February 11 lead to this success off her campaign in the Group 3 highlight over 2100-metres.
Wings Of Song ($2.30 favourite) took control at the top of the Launceston straight and held off second favourite Very Sewreel ($2.90) by a half-length margin with the Danny O'Brien-trained Ala Moana ($14) 1¾-lengths away in third.
"She's got better every time," jockey Jye Mcneil said.
"This being her second time over the 2100-metres, she felt even stronger.
"She had a nice resting run though there was a but going on in the middle stages of the race and she adapted to those situations really well.
"I just loved the way she joined in and put the race away."
McNeil added that this first trip to Launceston for the filly was of no concern to her.
"All she can do is win and that is what she's been doing," he added with this run likely to round out Wings Of Song's preparation.
Earlier on the card it was a local victory in feature race for two-year-olds, the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m), with the Stuart Gandy-trained Geegees Mistruth ($1.45 favourite) notching her fourth win in as many starts.
The Tasmanian Summer Carnival continues at Launceston on Wednesday with three black-type races including the Group 3 $300,000 Launceston Cup (2400m).
