Ballina: Race 7 @ 5.30pm

Locust from a wide gate has the speed to cross and lead. TOOTS IS TOPS (13) has settled back and found the line with gusto at both starts to date over short trips than this. Perfectly placed out to today's journey and with a little further natural improvement she can break through. QUALIFY (12) is in the mix first up from a 15-week spell. Last appeared when a fast-finishing 2nd at the Gold Coast over 1400m. Trialled very well recently so looks set for a big return. WE WANT IT ALL (9) is mixing her form but has placed 4/9 at this distance so is worth an each-way investment in a race of few chances. CALABRIA (2) wasn't beaten all that far at Doomben first up and will find this easier. SELECTION: #13 Toots Is Tops is ready to win.

Corowa: Race 5 @ 4:40pm

Spanish Poet can run them along. SPANISH POET (2) led and won the Maiden here and then was just beaten as favourite in the 58. Races handy and can bounce back with the weight drop. THE CHAPLAIN (3) peaks and has been knocking on the door. He rates well and is worth another chance. WAR BLUES (4) won as expected and then disappointed also as favourite. Draws out but is also a hope down in the weights. SMART STYLE (1) has won and placed the last two and won't be far away keeping the claim. SELECTION: Hard to label any good things on this program. #2 Spanish Poet runs along and enjoys the circuit and looks a solid chance.

Ballarat Race 8 @ 5:00pm
Not much early speed. Sydney Blue may do the job. DONNDUBHAN (4) missed a lip here off the long break and then delivered at this trip after having a tough run. He draws well and looks hard to beat. STONEY VISTA (9) made sharp improvement winning the Maiden from the pace and the 4kg claim gives him a chance. KING OF VANDALS (16) hit the line hard placing first-up and will be better for it. The scratchings help with the gate. SYDNEY BLUE (10) resumes for Waterhouse-Bott and keep a close eye on the market. SELECTION: Plenty of shorties on the program. In Race 8, #4 Donndubhan appeals at each way odds.
