Major metropolitan meetings across Australia are today held at Caulfield, Kensington, Gold Coast, Ascot and Gawler.

KENSINGTON: RACE 8 @ 5:40PM

Doesn't appear a lot of depth to this line up with the leading market hopes tipped to fight out the finish. Speed only looks fair over the 1550m journey. Word For Word (3) was a hard watch last start, when Nash got caught asleep at the wheel. Picked up well once out of the pocket, but just missed the bob. Hasn't had much luck at all this time in, but should be at her top third up and with the right run, she is the one to beat. CINQUEDEA (4) was very good fresh, before disappointing last start. Clearly better than that and remains under strong notice. ABOVE AND BEYOND (7) is also capable. SELECTIONS: Sticking with Word For Word, just needs some luck!

Randwick Kensington - January 4

CAULFIELD: RACE 3 @ 2:05PM

Tony Nicconi has the pace to use barrier two and Wise Hero should get up there from his good draw. Causeway Girl (8) gets the blinkers on after an even effort last time. Her best is good enough. TONY NICCONI (4) was a shade disappointing last campaign but he resumes in an ideal race here and no shock to see him back in business now. He maps really well, sitting in the first couple from a low draw without a great deal of pressure around, and this is certainly no tougher than anything he contested last prep. MOOR WANTED (7) will be fitter second up and the return run was sound. VAINSTREAM (5) and THE LAST NAPOLEON (10) are others for the shortlist. SELECTIONS: Liking Causeway Girl on an each way basis.

GOLD COAST: RACE 6 @ 3:55pm

The big field should go at a genuine tempo. Morrissy (2) deserves a win. He has placed at three of four starts this time in and showed he had his hoof right on the till when beaten a head at Flemington last outing. He looks well placed in this region and is favourably drawn. Gets his chance. EDISON (12) fought hard and got the bob at Randwick last start. He is a lightly raced colt making good progress. Right in this. ASTRO BOY TOY (11) was beaten less than 2L when resuming and won two of three starts at his maiden campaign. Improver. MAGIC FOX (5) has run on well at both starts this time in and could peak third up. MANDELA (15) also charged home first up and can improve. SELECTIONS: Morrissy to break through off good Melbourne form.

GAWLER: RACE 7 @ 4:52PM (AEDST)

Yankee Eyes to lead comfortably. Light The Waves (5) is a very smart mare who looks very hard to beat despite coming off a 33-week spell. Form last prep was highlighted by a win at Morphettville in a Bm86. Trialled well over 1250m recently so looks forward enough to run well. PICKELHAUBE (1) settled behind the leading pair then was a shade too strong late in the piece over 1500m here last start. Cherry-ripe after three runs back and is looking for this trip now. YANKEE EYES (6) led but couldn't hold out Pickelhaube here recently. Untested at this trip but expected to give a bold sight with an uncontested lead. EXALTED DEE (8) won easily over 1800m at Morphettville nine days ago. Up in class but has to be respected. DIAMONDS ARE (9) is in great form and is a light weight chance. SELECTIONS: Gamble on the class of #5 Light The Waves prevailing first up.

ASCOT: RACE 7 @ 6:40PM (AEDST)

Snowchino gets control in front. Mizlecki can race handy and Like A Butterfly probably comes across from a wide gate. Not much speed on paper. Snowchino (4) dominated from the front in beating many of these mares over a mile two weeks ago. Extra 200m here but the one to run down again. LIKE A BUTTERFLY (3) has been excellent in both runs back and did the chasing  behind Snowchino last time. Danger again. PERFECT JEWEL (1) disappointed in that race running last. Blinkers off and Pike on so expect better. MIZLECKI (2) is in the mix again and MIDNIGHT SKY (5) has claims too. SELECTION: Snowchino to win.
