Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on May 1.

Racecourse : Wagga. Picture: Murrumbidgee Turf Club

Six TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Friday at Muswellbrook, Wagga, Pakenham, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Alice Springs.

Wagga:  Race 7 @ 4:20pm

Expecting a genuine speed. SAVACOOL (5) is an honest mare. She makes the trip up from Waller's Melbourne base. Found the line well behind an all the way winner last start at Caulfield. She swims in the heavy and should be strong at the end of this. MAURUS (3) is the improver third-up. Unwanted in betting in both runs in and ran accordingly but they've been fitness building. Grows a leg on a damp track and should be respected. THE DOCTOR'S SON (14) is the best longshot. SELECTIONS: Savacool straight out.

Muswellbrook Race 4 @ 2:10pm

Black Sunrise might be the one to go forward at a decent clip. VALUE ABBEY (6) pulled hard mid-race but still closed strongly to get up for 3rd over the mile at Scone last start. Very fit now and better placed coming back in trip with a bit more tempo. Hasn't won in ages but this looks the right race. BLACK SUNRISE (1) made a sustained run only to fail narrowly over 1400m at Scone last time out. Consistent gelding with 100% place record at this trip. Cherry-ripe third up and a clear threat. ATHENA'S LAD (4) returns from a 20-week spell in a winnable race. Convincing winner at the start of last prep so should come to hand quickly. BANDAHARA (2) caught the eye when resuming at Port Macquarie recently. Races well here so should run a big race with added fitness. SELECTIONS: #6 Value Abbey each-way at around $5.50 in early markets looks a safe investment.

Cranbourne: Race 9 @ 9:00pm

The Master Speed can cross over and make the pace. SHOT OF IRISH (4) didn’t miss by far at Caulfield in his first run for the Laming yard and has plenty up the sleeve. He’s good third-up and the former Tasmanian enjoys wet tracks and can win with Walker replacing the apprentice. KAPLUMPICH (5) needed the run in the same race and has more to give. Draws to advantage and Melham’s booking interests. HONEY ESPRIT (9) finds a bit easier and continues to race well. Draws well and won’t be too far away. THE MASTER SPEED (2) next best building on the Launceston win in the BM84. SELECTIONS: This is very suitable for #4 Shot Of Irish.
