Bold Thruster Breathing Fire For Return

3 minute read

Star sprinter Bold Thruster appears very well placed to make a winning return when due to contest the twelfth event at Kranji on Sunday.

Set to line up in the Group 2 Merlion Trophy [1200m], Bold Thruster appears in fine fettle and gets every chance under the WFA conditions.

A winner of nine of his 16 starts, Bold Thruster notably kicked off for Michaels Clements in this very race, having first started his career with Shane Baertschiger.

Bold Thruster won six of his first nine starts, before finishing sixth in the Group 1 Lion City Cup [1200m].

He finished second on debut for Clements in last year's Merlion Trophy, when very game behind Countofmontecristo.

Taking a few starts to find his stride for the new stable, Bold Thruster put it together at the back end of his last preparation, winning three of his last four starts.

Clements also managed to stretch the galloper out to 1400m, not something many predicted.

Winning both trials in the lead up, his latest was very sharp when just edging out the Michael Clements trained Skywalk.

Stopping the clock at 58.29 over 1000m, it's one of the slickest trials you see.

That should give him the perfect platform for Sunday's affair and the wide draw also suits as it allows Beuzelin to take his time coming across.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he holds a clear edge and anywhere near his best and he will take a power of beating.

The James Peters trained Skywalk wasn't beaten far in his return and loved his trial behind Bold Thruster.

He has won three of six second up and is a noted performer on the polytrack having won 7/15.

Duric sticks aboard which is another tick and he's drawn to get a lovely run.

On best form, he isn't rated that far off Bold Thruster and with even luck, he is sure to make his presence felt.

The Leticia Dragon trained Surpass Natural faces a tough ask at the weights, but won well fresh and appears capable of taking that next step.

On the bare form he has a fair bit to find on the first two, but has won six from nine and is clearly a talent.

He too has drawn well and looms as a major threat.

Of the rest the consistent River Radiance appears the next in line.

Good luck and happy punting.
