Scott Roth will coach Tasmania's Jack Jumpers when they enter the NBL next season.

The former NBA player and current Perth assistant coach was named on Thursday to lead the NBL's 10th team into the 2021-22 season.

The Cleveland native boasts a resume that includes various NBA and international assistant roles, the Dominican Republic head coaching role and a decade playing in Europe and America.

The 59-year-old was part of the Wildcats' charge to a pandemic- impacted title last season but will plot their demise when he formally begins his new role in Hobart from March 1.

Club hierarchy are confident his experience and contacts will ensure the Jack Jumpers build a competitive squad in their inaugural season.

"I've enjoyed a long journey in basketball but as soon as I moved to Australia I knew the NBL was where I wanted to be long term," he said.

"This is a world-class league and I can't wait to get started and prepare for our inaugural season.

"To have a whole state behind one team will be amazing and I'm committed to helping build a really strong culture that Tasmanians can be part of and enjoy what will be an exciting journey for the Jack Jumpers."
