Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 1.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Pakenham, Fannie Bay, Gundagai, Port Macquarie and Rockhampton.
PAKENHAM SYNTHETIC: RACE 7 @ 3:00 PMMARTINI SPECIAL (7) won here as the favourite last start over 1200m when fresh-up and is going to be heavily backed to make it a double. Rates as one of the better winning chances on today's card. VIDEO (1) resumes from a spell and having won on debut four starts back over 1200m is expected to go a bold race fresh-up. Rates as one of the leading chances. CRAFTY EFFORT (6) resumes from a spell having finished fourth last start over over 2007m at Kilmore six months back. Won fresh-up last prep and on that score he deserves respect in this field. STRIKE THE NIGHT (12) continued her good recent form when she finished second here last start over 1200m at this track. She looks close to recording another win and is a must include in trifecta betting.

GUNDAGAI: RACE 1 @ 1:25 PM
AVVERTIMENTO (1) is unlucky to still be a maiden placing in five of eight overall and strikes a very winnable contest here. Gets the services of Van Overmeire from the low draw and should be right there at the business end. GAMBACORTA (6) wasn't too far off them at Canberra last time out and will strip fitter third-up from the spell. Looms as the main danger. DEL VIENTO (3) was just behind the placegetters on debut and will have taken a lot of benefit from that race day experience. Top-three conveyance. CHARGE AGAIN (2) gets 2kg weight relief with the claim and can play a role in the outcome. EIGHT WILLOWS (4) best of the rest in a race with only a handful of chances.

ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 2 @ 2:12 PM
BETTERDEEL (1) deserved the Open 2 win at Mackay bet an 8-11 favourite. Draws low and the Stanley-Taylor linkage are lethal. He clearly rates to win again. STREET GLORY (4) resumes and won the Maiden here comfortably her only first-up outing. Will have come on and is a quinella hope. MONEY MUNCHER (3) won the Maiden here heavily bet and has plenty of scope to improve. The rails gate advantages. BONAUGURA (5) peaks and improved at Mackay. In the mix.
