It is with immense sadness that the Australian Jockeys Association acknowledges the tragic passing of Carly-Mae Pye.
Tragically, Carly-Mae died as a result of a riding incident when she succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall at Rockhampton on 13 October 2014.
Rockhampton jockeys commented, “Carly-Mae was the one person who was there every day and always had a smile and chat ready for anyone. She was a terrific jockey and an outstanding horse woman and just a terrific lady. It’s just so sad.”
Carly-Mae represents the face of many Australian Jockeys; hard-working, widely travelled, dedicated and committed to a difficult, dangerous and challenging job. She rode several hundred winners including making her presence felt when she ventured to the Metropolitan area.
All Australian riders convey their deepest sympathy to Carly-Mae’s partner Tim Cook, her family and friends at this very sad time. The Australian Jockeys Association and the National Jockeys Trust will offer assistance to Carly-Mae’s family at this time.
AJA General Manager, Des O'Keeffe and sports psychologist, Lisa Stevens, have travelled to Rockhampton to support the family, assist riders and organise counselling.
