Best From The West: Belmont – 21st May 2022

We have returned to Belmont over the last week and getting a grip on the ways of the form can take time as it’s a much different beast to Ascot.

In what is a really good sprint for this time of year outside the group class horses, the last is a race to watch but It'Sarayday has to be one to keep following.

He meets some lovely horses but he showed on return that he should be mentioned in their group going forward.

The WA Guineas provided the guide that he is a sprinter and not beyond and first up he dominated them.

Put straight into the race off the lovely gate by Pat Carbery here, he can get mobile when he wants and control the way the race is run.

Where he ends up this prep or if it's just one to be prepared for the Summer and a tilt at the Winterbottom who knows, but he has ability for sure.

For the value play, the Provincial Championship Series Final is being run over the 1400m. The horse who won this very race last year Dark Assault is entered again and goes around at huge odds.

He was similarly leading into this race off a provincial placing and like last year draws a soft barrier.

Without much luck at Pinjarra, he got out in time but he's much more adept at this type of journey.

Look for Brad Rawiller to have him sitting just behind the speed and if they fan in the straight, he is capable of taking the run and running a bottler at a price.

Horses often peak at the same time each year and for this prizemoney, it seems the likely focus for the stable.
