Cauthen’s Power is expected to continue his winning form in the Choose Segenhoe Benchmark 77 Handicap at Randwick on Saturday.

Cauthen's Power Picture: Racing and Sports

The son of Road To Rock has been excellent this campaign, winning first up at Warwick Farm before landing the prize at Rosehill over 1500m a fortnight ago.

His second up outing returned the gelding a new master Timeform rating of 93 and signs point to the gelding building further on that effort this Saturday in the Choose Segenhoe Benchmark 77 Handicap (1600m).

Cauthen’s Power should strip fitter again third run from a spell. Early in both his campaign and career, the Chris Waller-trained gelding can continue progressing.

From an inside barrier he should settle midfield and from there, jockey Brenton Avdulla just has to move the four-year-old off heels into the clear.

The jockey is in superb form through the season to date, having already amassed 53 winners at a strike rate of 17% and a Profit On Turnover of 16%.

Cauthen’s Power is just one ride in a strong book which Brenton Avdulla possesses.

Another comes early in the program where Northern Fury contests the Tab Highway Class 2 Handicap (1100m).

The mare resumes off a three start campaign late last season which commenced with back to back wins at Wagga.

She was then thrown in the deep end over 1200m at Caulfield where the daughter of Northern Meteor more than held her own.

She produced a midfield sixth and would likely have finished closer had it not been or a chequered passage in the straight.

Northern Meteor also appears well placed to fire first run from a spell from a number of statistical angles.

Firstly, Canberra trainer Matthew Dale who is operating at a profit on turnover this season of 33.2%.

His stable is flying this season with 25 winners a strike rate of 30%.

Even more impressive is how the stable boasts the same 30% winning strike rate at metropolitan level so far this season.

Dale has trained nine metropolitan winners from 30 runners. His seven Sydney winners has the Canberra horseman sitting equal eighth in the Sydney Trainers Premiership alongside James Cummings, David Vandyke and John Thompson.
