Brisbane Best: Eagle Farm – 27th April 2019

3 minute read

Last-start eye-catcher Shogun Sun finds a race to suit as part of a big 10 race card at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Shogun Sun looks to atone for a luckless run here a fortnight ago when he lines up in the Children’s Hospital Foundation Class 6 over 1600m.

The four-year-old was held up for the early part of the straight last outing but when clear at the 200m he ran on well for a three-quarter length second in open company.

He attempts 1600m for the first time but the way he found the line last start suggests it will suit and he is proven at this course.

He looks well placed dropping back to class 6 company and a return of his last-start rating would win this.

The Tony Gollan-trained Oakfield Monarch has a sense of timing when he lines up in the day’s opener, the Raelene Boyle Outreach Benchmark 75 over 2200m.

The six-year-old comes off a much-improved effort second up when he worked home strongly for second at Sunshine Coast and he should relish the extra 400m as a two-time winner at this distance.

He should be nearing peak fitness third up and he gets the services of leading Sydney jockey Blake Shinn who heads north for the early carnival races.
