Classy filly Outback Barbie looks primed for a first-up win on a big day of racing at Gold Coast on Saturday.

The Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old launches her winter carnival campaign in the Attwood Marshall Silk Stocking over 1200m.

[n]Outback Barbie[/n] is a known fresh performer – from three first up runs she has won two Listed races and run a close second in a Group 2 in Sydney – so can be expected to be wound up for this.

She has also been to the Gold Coast twice for placings in the two richest races run at the course –a third to star sprinter [n]Sunlight[/n] in last year’s Magic Millions Classic and when beaten a head in a blanket finish at her last run in the Magic Millions Guineas in January.

Outback Barbie will wear blinkers for the first time in a key gear change and gets the services of Jeff Lloyd who should be able to give the filly the ideal run in transit from gate one.

[n]Tribal Wisdom[/n] looks a likely improver when he takes on the Australian Turf Club Trophy over 1400m earlier in the program.

The gelding’s form may not leap off the page – he has run ninth at both outings this campaign – but there have been genuine excuses.

He took on the Group 1 Galaxy first up but didn’t handle a very wet track, then endured a torrid run when caught wide at Randwick a fortnight ago.

He kept chasing on that occasion despite the hard run and top jockey Kerrin McEvoy sticks with him.

Tribal Wisdom is a two-time winner at 1400m so the step up in distance suits and he is also a proven third-up performer so should be ready to show his best.
