Brisbane Best : Doomben – 11th May 2019

A big day of Group 1 racing at Doomben on Saturday offers several each way betting propositions on a competitive program.

With a few short-priced favourites among the feature races and some open fields in others, early in the card could be the place to find some each way value.

One of those is Natch , who lines up in the Mittys Class 6 Handicap over 1200m.

He was strong on the line when scoring a resuming win at Toowoomba and while he has been freshened since, his second up form is even better winning two of four attempts.

He also has a 50 per cent strike rate at 1200m so the step up in trip suits and it was encouraging to see him take a sit first up, suggesting he may be a more versatile galloper this time in.

Brad Stewart knows Natch well having won three races on his back and should be able to lob him into the ideal position from gate three.

Expect him to be strong at the business end.

Capable mare Femme Fireball may be able to kick punters off on the right note in the day’s opener, the Valmont Coatings Class 6 Handicap over 1200m.

She raced in much tougher company than this at the end of last campaign and managed a Listed placing.

Before that Femme Fireball won her first three runs after a spell, all at this course and distance so she can be expected to be wound up to fire fresh again.

Dale Smith goes back aboard after riding her in all six outings last campaign and with three wins on her back he knows how to get her over the line.

Expect Femme Fireball to go back in the field from gate 10 but look for her steaming home.
