Brisbane Best: Sunshine Coast – 29th June 2019

3 minute read

Feature racing heads to Sunshine Coast for Caloundra Cup day and with the track rated a heavy 10 early, wet track form is a must.

One that fits the bill in that regard and has her hoof on the till is smart mare Jamaican Rain in the Listed Oaks Hotel Glasshouse Handicap over 1400m.

The six-year-old has had seven attempts on rain-affected going for five wins so ticks the 'wet tracker' box and she finds a much more suitable assignment after taking on Group 1 company at both runs since a spell.

She was far from disgraced when midfield in the Goodwood then was beaten just 1.3 lengths when fifth in the Tattersall's Tiara last week.

She has won third up before and the quick back up should help bring her to her peak.

Jamaican Rain won her only previous visit to Sunshine Coast and is a three-time winner at the distance.

Jockey Tegan Harrison should be able to secure the ideal run in transit from gate two and if the mare runs up to her best ratings she should be too classy for this field.

Savacool is another mare ready to hit her peak when she lines up in the Wharf Mooloolaba Benchmark 85 Handicap (1600m) earlier in the program.

The Chris Waller-trained four year-old will be ready to show her best after two good efforts this time in having raced well third up in the past.

Her latest effort was an eye catcher when she settled well back in the Listed Wayne Wilson before making good ground for a 2.3L fifth.

That was Savacool's first time out of a place at the mile – having recorded two wins and two placings from her other four attempts – and Glen Boss may be able to settle her closer from a low draw.

The drop back in class to a benchmark is a significant one and she is a three-time winner on wet tracks.
